Step 1: Check for Obstructions First
Before you climb on the roof, use the Starlink app's obstruction checker. Hold your phone at the proposed mount location and scan the sky. In Australia, you want a clear view to the north where the satellites pass. Even a small tree branch can cause significant signal drops.
Step 2: Choose Your Mount Position
Aim for a spot that is: as high as possible on the roof, away from chimneys or vents, close to where the cable will enter the building, and accessible for future maintenance.
Step 3: Fix the Mount
- Position the mount bracket and mark your drill holes
- Drill pilot holes — use masonry bits for terracotta or concrete tiles, timber bits for metal roofing
- Apply silicone sealant to the base of the bracket before fixing
- Secure with the included stainless steel fixings
- Apply additional sealant around each fixing point
Step 4: Attach the Dish and Route the Cable
Clip your Starlink Mini dish onto the mount, then route the cable down the roof and into the building. Use cable clips every 300–400mm to keep it secure. Where the cable enters the building, use a cable entry gland to prevent water ingress.
Step 5: Test Your Signal
Power up and check the Starlink app. You should see strong signal with minimal obstructions. Typical speeds in Australia range from 50–200+ Mbps on the Mini.
