Is a Wall Mount Right for Your Starlink Gen 3?
A wall mount is the most popular choice for residential Starlink Gen 3 installs in Australia. It's easier to access than a roof, doesn't require roof penetrations, and still gets your dish high enough for a clear northern sky view. It's ideal for brick veneer homes, weatherboard houses, and commercial buildings.
What You'll Need
- Starlink Gen 3 Wall Mount
- Drill with masonry or timber bits
- Spirit level
- UV-rated silicone sealant
- Starlink app
Step 1: Find the Right Wall Position
Use the Starlink app's obstruction checker to find a wall position with a clear northern sky view. The higher on the wall, the better. Avoid positions blocked by eaves, neighbouring buildings, or trees to the north.
Step 2: Mark and Drill
- Hold the mount bracket against the wall and use a spirit level to ensure it's straight
- Mark your drill holes with a pencil
- Drill pilot holes — use masonry anchors for brick or concrete, timber screws for weatherboard
Step 3: Seal and Fix
- Apply UV-rated silicone sealant to the back of the bracket
- Fix the bracket firmly to the wall
- Apply additional sealant around each fixing point to prevent water ingress
Step 4: Attach the Dish and Cable
Attach your Starlink Gen 3 dish to the mount, then route the cable neatly down the wall using cable clips. Where the cable enters the building, seal around the entry point with silicone or use a cable entry gland.
Step 5: Power Up and Check Signal
Open the Starlink app and verify your signal. You should see minimal obstructions and speeds of 100–300+ Mbps on Gen 3 in most Australian locations.
